Leatherback turtles of Gandoca, SE Costa Rica. This female leatherback was 147 cm long. She layed about 80 eggs that were transferred to the hatchery in a plastic garbage bag. If you look carefully, you can see the plastic bag catching the eggs as they are layed. The lighting is poor because we didn't want to disturb the nesting process. Only her tail end was illuminated.
